Biography

Alpha Blondy is the precursor and symbol of African reggae. More than any other, he has helped make reggae the world's music of the underprivileged and protesters. Born in Dimbokro on January 1, 1953, he came to prominence in 1982 with "Brigadier Sabari" and achieved international acclaim with Jerusalem in 1986. Produced with the full band of The Wailers, the album established Alpha Blondy as a new spokesman for the Third World. " Jerusalem" and his version of "Travailler c'est trop dur" are heard from Brazil to Indonesia. After another hit, "Sweet Fanta Diallo " in 1987, his career was thwarted by personality problems. Much listened to in his homeland, and now a UN peace ambassador, he gives frequent concerts and opens the door to young Ivorian talent in Jah Victory in 2007. On Vision in 2011 and Mystic Power in 2013, Alpha Blondy is content to be his usual self. Alpha Blondy releases Positive Energy in 2015 before embarking on his ritual festival tour. In 2018, the album Human Race features contributions from Angélique Kidjo and Youssou N'dour. Returning after the Covid-19 pandemic, Alpha Blondy signs the anthem of the African Football Cup with the track "Yanoka", followed two years later by the duet "Cold Fire" with Capleton and the album Rise, which invites Koffi Olomidé, Didi B, Soum Bill and Roseline Layo.
