Peter Steffen, born Ernst Bublitz on September 26, 1930, in Duisburg, Germany, was a singer known for his contributions to pop music. He began playing the accordion at the age of six and showed early musical talent in school and community settings. After completing his schooling during World War II, Steffen returned to Duisburg where he worked as a turner and formed the band Cocktail-Trio in the early 1950s. In 1958, Steffen was introduced by Margot Hielscher on Süddeutscher Rundfunk (SDR) and subsequently signed with Polydor Records. His debut single "Als ich ein kleiner Junge war" released in October 1960 became a hit. In 1961, he received the Bronzenen Löwen from Radio Luxemburg for his success. Steffen also appeared in the film Ach Egon! that same year. Throughout his career with Polydor, he collaborated with Hannelore Bassen and his son Roland on several singles, including "Vier Schimmel, ein Wagen" which was a notable release. In 1963, Steffen declined to renew his contract with Polydor and formed his own band, performing extensively both domestically and internationally. He passed away on August 31, 2012, in Rösrath at the age of 81 after a long illness.
