Biography

Singer-songwriter Elvis Costello (born Patrick Declan MacManus in London, August 25, 1954) made his debut in 1977, accompanying the emergence of punk(My Aim Is True, #14 in the UK charts, featuring the song "Alison"). He then formed a backing band, The Attractions, with whom he recorded the album This Year's Model, released in 1978 and reaching #4 in the charts. Armed Forces (1979) and Get Happy! (1980) followed, reaching number two. Produced from the outset by Nick Lowe, he broke away from the latter with the 1981 album Almost Blue (No. 7). This was followed by Imperial Bedroom, No. 6 in 1982. The iconoclastic singer evolved his style and diversified over the following decade, as evidenced by his association with Burt Bacharach(Painted from Memory, No. 32 in 1998). Rock, rhythm'n'blues, country, jazz pop, classical music, opera... Elvis Costello has experimented with many genres. In 2013, he once again created a surprise by teaming up with rap and funk group The Roots for the album Wise Up Ghost (no. 28). After a long association with his fetish group The Attractions from 1977 to 1996, in 2018 he reactivates another formation, The Imposters, for the album Look Now (No. 14), followed by the solo recording Hey Clockface (No. 39 in 2020), his 25th original studio opus. Still with The Imposters, he returned two years later with a new album, The Boy Named If. This reached No. 6 in the UK. Following the release of the album The Songs of Bacharach & Costello in 2023, which compiled the collaborations between these two songwriting legends, Elvis Costello returned in 2024 with the LP The Coward Brothers. This collaborative album with T-Bone Burnett takes its name from their 1980s alter egos, and serves as the soundtrack to the comedy audio series of the same name.
