Biography

James Kent, born on  January 22, 1993, in Paris, France, is a composer of electronic, darksynth, and metal music known by the stage name Perturbator. After mastering guitar in various metal groups, he turned to solo production at 18 and released the Night Driving Avenger EP on Bandcamp in 2012, followed by the self-released EP, Terror 404, and the debut album I Am the Night in the same year, which featured the track "The New Black". Terror 404 and I Am the Night attracted attention from the Hotline Miami developers, whose inclusion of his music propelled his profile. In 2014, he released Dangerous Days and, in 2016, the critically praised The Uncanny Valley on Blood Music, which earned a 5/5 rating from Bloody Disgusting. Subsequent releases include New Model (2017), Lustful Sacraments (2021), and Age of Aquarius (2025). Perturbator has toured extensively, headlining festivals such as Download and Hellfest, and collaborating with artists including Carpenter Brut, Cult of Luna, and HEALTH.
