Biography

José Cortés Jiménez, known professionally as Pansequito, was a Spanish flamenco singer born in 1945, in La Línea de la Concepción. Raised in a family with a strong flamenco tradition, he began his career in the tablaos of Málaga before moving to Madrid in 1963, where Manolo Caracol hired him for his tablao Los Canasteros. Pansequito performed internationally with Antonio Gades' company and won the ‘Premio a la Creatividad’ at the Concurso Nacional de Córdoba in 1974. His notable albums include Un Canto a la Libertad (2009). He received the XXIV trofeo Compás del Cante in Granada in 2010 and the Giraldillo al Cante de la Bienal de Flamenco for Un Canto a la Libertad in 2010. Pansequito passed away in 2023.
