Pan Mei-chen, born on June 30, 1969 in Taiwan, is a Taiwanese singer-songwriter who began her recording career in 1987 with her debut album ä¸è¦èµ°ä¸è¦èµ°. Pan Mei-chen's breakthrough came with her song "æ" (Regrets), which won the 1st Taiwan Youth Creative Folk Contest in 1987. She gained further recognition with albums such as ææ³æä¸ªå®¶ (1989) and ä½ å°±æ¯æå¯ä¸çæ (1990). In 1992, Pan Mei-chen faced a significant public controversy when Taiwan Television broadcast images of her in a lesbian bar, leading to an open letter defending her privacy. This event is seen as a milestone in homosexual rights in Taiwan. Her song "ææ³æä¸ªå®¶" won the Best Song Award at the 1st Golden Melody Awards in 1990. Pan Mei-chen continued to release albums throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, including ä½ å·ä¸å· (1990) and åè° ææ¹å (1995). In 2002, she opened a musical academy in Taichung.
