Tsai Chin is a popular folk singer from Taiwan. Born on 22 December 1957, in Kaohsiung, she is well versed in both Mandarin Chinese and Taiwanese Hokkien and has enjoyed a great deal of popularity in Hong Kong. Mostly known for her traditional folk songs, she has also participated in several musicals and TV shows. Tsai Chin has also been nominated for the Golden Horse Awards several times. In 1980, she made her debut with the blockbuster album âUnstoppable Song (The Forgotten Time),â followed by a string of albums that went on to attain mainstream popularity both in her native Taiwan and overseas, including âJust Like Your Tendernessâ (1981), âLast Nightâ (1983), and âHeartbreak Stationâ (1986). Her momentum kept going well into the 90s, with releases like âLate Night Showâ (1995) and âFolk Songâ (1996), which included the hit single âThe Ferry.â In the subsequent years, she was involved with the musicals Angels That Never Sleep, The Night of Love in Shanghai, and Running Angel. In 2007, her albums Tsai Chin Live 2007 and Golden Voice made the list of the Top-10-Selling Mandarin Albums of the Year by the Hong Kong branch of the IFPI.
