Biography

American girl group Pajama Party formed in Brooklyn, New York, in 1988. The original members were Jennifer McQuilkin of New Jersey, Daphne Rubin-Vega of Panama, and Suzi Ranta of Michigan. Their breakthrough came with their first single "Yo No Sé" (1988), which peaked at number 75 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Their debut album Up All Night was released in 1988 on Atlantic Records. In 1989, McQuilkin and Ranta were replaced by Lynn Critelli and Amanda Homi, with Homi later being replaced by Marialisa Costanzo in 1989. The group's second single "Over and Over" (originally performed by Brenda K. Starr) peaked at number 59 on the Hot 100. Their next single "Hide and Seek" (1990), remixed by Robert Clivillés and David Cole, became their first music video and went to number 73 on the Hot 100. The group toured with notable acts such as New Kids on The Block and George Lamond. In 1991, Pajama Party released their second album Can't Live Without It, which included the single "Got My Eye on You". By 1992, the group disbanded, but members continued in the entertainment industry. Rubin-Vega became a successful solo dance music artist and originated the role of Mimi in the Broadway musical Rent. In 2000, a new version of Pajama Party performed at a celebration for Fever Records' Sal Abbatiello, featuring Costanzo along with Janine Acquafredda and Johanna.
