Biography

Pagan Altar, a British doom metal band, was formed in 1978 in Brockley, England by Terry Jones and his son Alan Jones. Initially known as Pagan, the band changed their name to avoid false associations. Their first recordings, including "The Time Lord" and "Highway Cavalier", were made in 1978 at New Cross Studios. In 1982, they released their self-titled EP Pagan Altar. The band organized their own concerts and collaborated with acts like Spider but disbanded in 1985 due to financial constraints. They reunited in 2004, releasing albums including Lords of Hypocrisy and Mythical & Magical. Pagan Altar's music is characterized by its slow tempo and occult themes, influenced by bands like Black Sabbath.
