Biography

Diamond Head is a British heavy metal band formed in 1976 in Stourbridge, England (West Midlands), by guitarist Brian Tatler and drummer Duncan Scott. Quickly joined by singer Sean Harris and bassist Colin Kimberley, the band became one of the pioneers of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) in the late 1970s. Their debut album, Lightning to the Nations (1980), although self-produced and initially distributed on a confidential basis, acquired cult status and had a profound influence on the metal scene, with bands such as Metallica covering many of their songs. As evidenced by subsequent albums Borrowed Time (1982) and Canterbury (1983), Diamond Head's style is characterized by powerful riffs, elaborate melodies and a more progressive approach than that of some of their contemporaries. Despite strong potential, the band failed to break through commercially in the 1980s, partly due to questionable managerial choices and a lack of support from their record company. After several break-ups and reformations, Brian Tatler remained the core member of the band, reviving Diamond Head over the decades with different line-ups. The first reformation saw the release of the studio album Death and Progress (1993) and the live album Evil Live (1994), followed by the return of All Will Be Revealed (2005), It's Electric (live, 2006) and What's in Your Head? (2007) in the mid-2000s. In 2010, Live at the BBC revisits the band's British radio sessions between 1980 and 1993. Since 2016 and the Diamond Head album, Rasmus Bom Andersen has been the lead singer, bringing a new dynamic to the band, which continues to produce albums and tour. After the studio album The Coffin Train (2019), the new line-up re-recorded tracks from the first album in Lightining to the Nations 2020 (2020), followed by Live and Electric (2025).
