Paddy Tunney, born on January 28, 1921, in Glasgow to Irish parents, was a traditional singer-songwriter and poet. He moved back to Ireland as a child and grew up in Rusheen near Pettigo, County Donegal. His mother taught him his first song at age four. Tunney's early career involved working as a forester before he became involved with the IRA during World War II. After his release from prison, he settled in Donegal. Tunney began adjudicating at the Fleadh Cheoil na hÃireann in the early 1960s and released his first album, The Man of Songs. Paddy Tunney of Letterkenny, Donegal, Eire, in 1962. Notable subsequent albums include Ireland Her Own (1966) and The Mountain Streams Where the Moorcocks Crow (1975). Paddy Tunney's songs appeared in the repertoires of many traditional singers, including the Chieftains and Altan. He died on December 7, 2002.
