Biography

Pádraigín Ní Uallacháin, born in County Louth, Ireland, is an Irish singer and musician. Raised in an Irish-speaking household, she was encouraged by her father to sing traditional songs from the Oriel area. In 1977, Ní Uallacháin made history as the first woman to read news headlines in Irish at RTÉ. She began her music career with the release of her debut album A Stór is a Stóirín in 1994, which featured 36 songs for all ages and included music videos commissioned by Britain's Channel 4. In 2005, she released Áilleacht, an album of new compositions in Irish. Ní Uallacháin's composition "Mullach a' tSí" was recorded by Steve Vai on his 2012 album The Story of Light.
