Biography
Raul Acosta is the founder and frontman of the Newâ¯Yorkâbased merengue group Oroâ¯Solido, a band that has achieved international recognition since its inception in 1993. After relocating to the United States at age nine, Acosta pursued music education at Kennedyâs Music World and began performing with local groups, eventually forming Oroâ¯Solido in 1994; the groupâs selfâtitled debut album Oroâ¯Solido followed the same year, establishing a steady release schedule with Internacional (1996), Elâ¯Poderâ¯deâ¯Newâ¯York (1997), 5toâ¯Aniversario (1999), and Bestâ¯ofâ¯theâ¯Best (2000). Notable tracks such as "Taâ¯Cache", "Laâ¯Tanguitaâ¯Roja", and "Elâ¯Baileâ¯delâ¯Beeper" propelled the group onto tropical radio charts and earned nominations and wins at Premiosâ¯Estrella, Premiosâ¯ACE, and Premiosâ¯Loâ¯Nuestro. Oroâ¯Solido performed at highâprofile venuesâincluding five appearances at Madisonâ¯Squareâ¯Garden, the Universal City Amphitheater, and the Zócalo in Mexico Cityâand shared stages with artists like Celiaâ¯Cruz, Marcâ¯Anthony, and Theâ¯Temptations, while also appearing on Foxâ¯5 News Newâ¯York and the Jerryâ¯Lewis Telethon. The group celebrated its 20th anniversary with tours across the United States, Central and South America.
