Eduardo José Herrera de los RÃos (April 30, 1964), better known by his stage name Eddy Herrera, is an award-winning Dominican merengue artist. Born in Santiago de los Caballeros, he began taking guitar lessons from a local teacher at the age of 9. He also participated in several talent competitions, winning the Festival of the Voice of Santiago when he was just 17. In the following years, and much to the dismay of his mother, Eddy Herrera dropped out of college to become the lead singer of Wilfrido Vargasâ orchestra, lending his voice to classic hit songs such as âEl Jardinero,â âEl Loco y la Luna,â and âMujer Tirana.â After leaving the group in 1990, Eddy Herrera kicked off his solo career with the album Independiente (1990), followed by Mi More (1991), Ãmame (1993), Lluvia de Amor (1994), Los Hombres Calientes (1997), and Alma Gemela (1998), all of which were hugely successful in the Dominican Republic. In 2000, he achieved international success with the album Me Enamoré, which featured the smash hit âDemasiado Niña.â A year later, Eddy Herrera returned with his biggest hit âTú Eres Ajena,â included in 2001âs Atrevido, which received nominations for the Latin Grammys and the Lo Nuestro Awards. In the subsequent years, he won a Latin Grammy for Best Merengue/Bachata Album for Ahora (2020) and collaborated extensively with up-and-coming urban artists such as Mozart La Para, Vakeró, and Omar Enrique. The following years a new run of studio and live projects for Eddy Herrera, beginning with the album Libre in 2021 and followed in April 2022 by Aquà Estoy, which featured cuts like "Y Como Te Olvido", "A Beber" and "Si Yo Se Lo Pido" and was accompanied by the collaborative single "Por Ãltima Vez" with bachata singer Frank Reyes. In May 2023 he issued the album Imparable, his 17th studio release, built around tracks such as "Sin Rumbo", "Quiero Más" and an updated version of "A Beber" in remix form alongside Felipe Peláez and Omar Enrique. May 2024 saw the release of Agradecido (Live), a 20-track concert album drawn from his Agradecido show in Pembroke Pines that revisited career-defining hits and earned a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Merengue/Bachata Album, while later that year he released the merengue-with-cumbia single "Interesada" with Peruvian singer Ãlvaro Rod. In May 2025, Eddy Herrera returned with the studio album Novato Apostador and that same year he won the Latin Grammy Award for Best Merengue/Bachata Album for the record.
