Onni Gideon Tervonen (7 April 1921 â 25 July 1994) was a Finnish jazz, pop, and rock musician, composer, and actor born in Balashov, Russia. Gideon moved to Finland in 1921 and began a musical career with the Oahu Trio in 1941, later performing as Aloha Hawaii. A multi-instrumentalist, Gideon performed on contrabass, violin, and Hawaiian guitar. In 1957, Gideon released âHawaiian Rockâ, the first rock recording in Finland. During the 1950s, his ensemble accompanied singers Olavi Virta and Annikki Tähti, recording the track âKuningaskobraâ. His solo discography includes his most famous track, âTiikerihaiâ, and the album Hawaijitunnelmia (1957). In the 1960s, Gideon performed as the character Onni-klowni in the television program Sirkus Papukaija. Gideon appeared in the film Iskelmäprinssi (1991) as a music store owner, performing âHawaiian Rockâ. Gideon died in Helsinki on July 25, 1994.
