Biography

Born in Bonao, Dominican Republic, on January 17, 1979, Antonio Peter De la Rosa—better known as Omega El Fuerte—emerged in the early 2000s as a defining force in merengue urbano, a modern fusion of traditional merengue with hip-hop and R&B. After starting his career in local rap groups and television competitions, Omega formed Omega y Su Mambo Violento and broke through with the 2005 release of Omega y Su Mambo Violento, which made waves with hits like "Alante Alante." His global profile rose further with the 2009 release of El Dueño del Flow, followed by its 2011 sequel, both earning commercial success and awards such as a Premio Casandra and platinum certifications for singles like "Si Te Vas," "Tu Si Quieres, Tu No Quieres," and "Merengue Electrónico." Omega's energetic style gained him fans in the U.S. and Europe, and he shared credits with artists like Pitbull and Jowell & Gocho on tracks such as "Mi Alma Se Muere" and "Dándole." Despite legal controversies throughout his career, Omega has continued to deliver hits and maintain a strong fanbase, with standout releases like "Pegao Remix" (2020), "Chambonea" (2022), and "Son Pinocho" (2023), affirming his status as a pioneer of modern merengue and one of the most impactful voices in Latin urban music.
