Nuala Kennedy, born on January 30, 1977 in Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland, is a singer and multi-instrumentalist. She began her musical journey playing piano and flute in local ceili bands and studied classical piano at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. In 2000, Kennedy moved to Edinburgh where she played regularly at sessions throughout the city. Her breakthrough came when she formed Fine Friday with Kris Drever and Anna-Wendy Stevenson, releasing two albums before disbanding. In 2007, Compass Records released her first solo album, The New Shoes, followed by Tune In (2010) and Noble Stranger (2012). Kennedy has collaborated with notable artists such as Will Oldham, Norman Blake, Cathal McConnell, and John Doyle. She tours globally as Nuala Kennedy Band, headlining at major festivals including Celtic Connections and the Festival Interceltique de Lorient. Kennedy is also a member of Oirialla and The Alt, releasing albums with both groups.
