Biography
Niko Etxart, born on May 9, 1953, in Altzürükü, Basque Country, was a French singer known for his work in Basque music. After moving to Paris at age two, Etxart learned Basque and became immersed in Basque culture, particularly through the local Basque club. He began his musical career in 1972 by providing backing vocals on a French singer's album and formed the group Tinka with friends. In 1974, Etxart returned to the Basque Country and founded Odol Berri, which released a well-received single. He later created Ximinorak, a successful festival group, and Minxoriak, with whom he released two albums, and their most well-known song, "Izan Gira". His solo debut Nahasketa (1979) showcased his rock influences. Etxart's breakthrough came with the single "Euskal rock´n´roll" (1979), which reached number 18 on Spainâs Los 40 Principales chart.
