Biography

New West is a Toronto-based Canadian music collective formed in 2017 and made up of multi-instrumentalists and songwriters Kala Wita, Vella, Ben Key and Noel West, who define themselves more as a creative assembly than a traditional band. Initially brought together through sessions orchestrated by Noel West, they gradually fused their artistic worlds to develop a hybrid sound, borrowing from contemporary and alternative R&B, rock and indie pop. Since their studio debut in 2019 with the tracks "Those Eyes" and "Call Me When You Hear This Song", they have produced numerous singles including, among others, "Next to You" and "This Little Story" in 2020, and covers of "Some Might Say" and "God Only Knows " in 2021. All of these were collected on the Singles 2020 - 2021 compilation, released in January 2022. That year saw the release of the track "Panic Attack" and their second EP In Good Time, followed by the album Based on a True Story..., released in October 2023 on Republic Records. Two EPs, Cotsworld and Stevie Nicks, followed in 2024, along with the singles "Credits" and "Happier!", then the New West EP in November. At the Juno Awards ceremony in March 2024, New West received the Breakthrough Group of the Year trophy.
