Biography

Born on November 29, 1993, in Wassenaar, South Holland, Dion Cooper is a Dutch singer-songwriter who rose to fame in 2015 after participating in the reality singing competition The Voice of Holland. He was exposed to pop music from a very young age by his funk musician father, who would play him records by Toto, the Police, Earth, Wind & Fire, the Beatles, and Jimi Hendrix. At the age of 15, he picked up the guitar and soon enough, he was writing and singing his own songs. After dropping out of business school to focus on his music career, Dion Cooper had his breakthrough in the reality show The Voice of Holland, joining rapper Ali B's team and making it to the battles stage. In 2020, he issued the singles "Much Higher" and "Jealousy," both included in his 2021 debut EP, Too Young Too Dumb. During this time, he went on tour with pop singer Duncan Laurence, who would help co-write Dion Cooper's 2022 singles "Know" and "Blue Jeans." In late 2022, he was chosen to represent the Netherlands at the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest alongside Mia Nicolai with the track "Burning Daylight." The song was officially released in March of that year and peaked at Number 61 on the Dutch charts.
