The New Christs, an Australian hard rock group, were formed in 1980 in Sydney by Rob Younger on lead vocals. Their first single, "Face a New God", was released in August 1981. After disbanding later that year, the group reformed multiple times with varying lineups. In 1983, they supported an Australian tour by Iggy Pop, after which they released two singles, "Like a Curse" (1984) and "Born out of Time" (1986). The New Christs achieved significant success with their studio album Distemper in August 1989, which reached Number 1 on the ARIA Alternative Albums Chart. Throughout their career, they released several albums, including Lower Yourself (1997) and Gloria (2009). The band's lineup has seen numerous changes over the years. Three former membersâStevie Plunder, Mark Wilkinson, and Christian Houllemareâhave passed away.
