Biography

Even though she jumped to fame through a series of roles in some of Argentina's biggest telenovelas, Uruguayan actress Natalia Oreiro has also cultivated a successful career as a pop singer, achieving both local and international success in places like Israel and Russia. Born Natalia Marisa Oreiro Iglesias on May 19, 1977, in Montevideo, Uruguay, she began studying drama as a child and appeared in over 30 commercials during her teenage years. At the age of 16, she relocated to Buenos Aires and landed a few minor roles in the soap operas 90-60-90 Modelos (1996) and Ricos y Famosos (1997), after which she got her big break on the 1998 comedy film Un Argentino en Nueva York. That same year, she made her official recording debut with her eponymous first album, whose lead single "Cambio Dolor" became the theme song for the soap opera Muñeca Brava, a highly popular prime-time show that launched her career in Israel, Russia, and Eastern Europe. Released in 2000, her sophomore album Tu Veneno received a nomination for Best Pop Female Vocal Album at the Latin Grammy Awards, followed by 2002's Turmalina, which achieved pole position in Argentina and cracked the Top 10 in the Czech Republic and Greece. Over the next few decades, Natalia Oreiro appeared in the films Miss Tacuarembó (2011) and Gilda, No Me Arrepiento de Este Amor (2016), and toured extensively throughout Russia, a country that granted her citizenship in 2021. In 2022, she collaborated with Lali and Soledad on the single "Quiero Todo," reaching Number 97 on the Argentine charts.
