Signed to BMG Ariola ahead of her first release, Argentinian singer-songwriter and guitarist Marcela Morelo (born on December 13th, 1969 in Lanús) was teed up for stardom from the outset of her career. The Spanish-language hitmaker shifted over 100,000 copies of her 1997 debut album, Manantial, which also included international chart smashes in the form of the singles âLa fuerza del engañoâ and âCorazón salvajeâ. The LP also scooped up two coveted Gardel Awards in Argentina for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Album, sowing the seeds for a long and successful career. Maintaining a release cycle of an album every two years up until 2009, Morelo landed a top 40 hit in Italy with 1999âs âPara toda la vidaâ and a top ten in Spain with âTormento de amorâ, while continuing to make inroads in her home country. Her fifth album, 2005âs saccharine pop effort Morelo 5, signalled a stylistic departure from its predecessors, although continued to foreground love songs. Her seventh, 2009âs Otro Plan, bagged her yet another Gardel Award, as did 2012âs El Club de Los Milagros and 2016âs Espinas Y Pétalos. Going into the 2010s, Morelo began to increasingly collaborate with other pop stars, calling upon Carlos Rivera for âNo voy a cambiarteâ, Destino San Javier for âSi tú te vasâ, Rozalén for âLa salidaâ and Soledad for âAlmas gemelasâ. Her tenth studio album, Tu Mejor Plan, arrived in 2020, with numerous tracks including its lead single âNo Podrásâ adopting a retro dance-pop sound.
