N. Rajam, born on April 8, 1938, in Chennai, India, was a violinist known for her contributions to Hindustani classical music. She began her musical training under her father, Vidwan A. Narayana Iyer, a prominent Carnatic musician, and later studied under Musiri Subramania Iyer and vocalist Omkarnath Thakur. Rajam developed the Gayaki Ang (vocal style) under her father's guidance and went on to perform extensively across India and globally. She served as a professor of music at Banaras Hindu University for nearly 40 years, eventually becoming the head of the department and dean of the Faculty of Performing Arts. Notable achievements include receiving the Padma Shri in 1984, the Padma Bhushan in 2004, and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship in 2012. Her discography includes albums such as Violin Dynasty (Raga Bageshri) and Dr. (Mrs.) N. Rajam (violin recital).
