Biography

Montserrat Cortés Fernández, known professionally as Montse Cortés, was born in Barcelona, Spain, in 1972, and is a gypsy flamenco singer. Growing up in the La Mina neighborhood of San Adrián de Besós, she began her career performing in local tablaos (flamenco venues) and accompanying dancers. Montse Cortés gained recognition when Antonio Canales invited her to join his company, where she performed for five years before releasing her debut solo album, Alabanza, in 2000 on Columbia Records. This album earned her a nomination for the Latin Grammy Awards. Throughout her career, Montse Cortés has collaborated with notable artists such as Paco de Lucía, Sara Baras, and Joaquín Cortés, contributing to various projects including "Neruda en el corazón" (2004), a collective tribute to Pablo Neruda. Her subsequent releases include La Rosa Blanca (2004) and Flamencas En La Sombra (2014).
