Biography

Michael Wendler is a popular yet controversial schlager singer and songwriter born in Dinslaken, Germany on 22 July 1972. Signing his first record deal in 1998 after being discovered by radio DJ Jurgen Renford, he spent the first few years writing songs for others under the alias Mic Skowy, before releasing his debut album All Or Nothing in 2001. After enjoying success as an underground artist, with singles like "She Loves the DJ" and "Don't Trust Anyone Over 30," he signed a major label deal with Sony BMG in 2007. Since then, he has released a string of successful singles and albums, as well as forging a career as a television star and appearing in several reality shows. In 2010, he was appointed the Crown of Folk Music Award and he has continued to write and perform live in both his home country, and in the USA where he now resides. He unveiled a slew of singles in the 2010s, including "Gut, dass Männer nie weinen" and "Wir war'n, wir sind, wir bleiben" in 2017, "Was soll ich im Himmel" in 2019 and "Was man liebt, gibt man frei" in 2020 and albums such as 2019's Stunde Null and Reloaded. In 2021, he caused controversy due to his inflammatory remarks about Germany's COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. Three years later, he re-emerged with a new album, Höllisch gut, which was released in March 2024 via AP Music.
