Mondo Generator, an American rock band founded in 1997 by Nick Oliveri, originated from the desert rock scene. The band's name was inspired by a spray-painted message on Oliveri's amplifier. Mondo Generator released their debut album, Cocaine Rodeo, in 2000 through Southern Lord Records, with contributions from friends including Josh Homme and Brant Bjork. In 2003, they followed up with A Drug Problem That Never Existed, featuring collaborations with Dave Catching, Troy Van Leeuwen, Mark Lanegan, and others. The band toured extensively to support the album, including performances at Lollapalooza. After Oliveri's departure from Queens of the Stone Age in 2004, Mondo Generator became his full-time project. They released Dead Planet in 2007, which was supported by a tour with Ozzfest and Turbonegro.
