Kelly had previously starred in Lost and Oller in As the Bell Rings. Their debut album MKTO was released in 2014. They released the Bad Girls EP in 2015 and singles “Hands Off My Heart/Places You Go” and “Superstitious” in 2016. The band briefly broke up in 2017 but returned a year later with the single “How Can I Forget.” In 2019, they issued the singles “Shoulda Known Better,” “Marry Those Eyes,” and “Consider Me Yours.” 2020 saw the release of the non-album singles “Simple Things,” “Party with My Friends,” and “How Much.” A year later, MKTO disbanded once again after Tony Oller announced his departure from the group.
