Biography

Mister Gang, a French reggae collective formed in Villabé, Essonne, emerged in the early 1990s when musicians from diverse backgrounds-Portuguese vocalist Loscar, Guadeloupean singer Timike, and others-converged to create a multicultural sound that blended French, Creole, and Portuguese lyrics; the group’s early days were spent recording at Studio Schnaax on the Isle of Moulin‑Galant. Their first release, the 1995 EP Réagis, marked a modest breakthrough, followed by the 1999 album Liberté Illégale, which consolidated their reputation within the French reggae scene; the single "Paris – Lisbonne – Pointe à Pitre" (2001‑05‑07) received radio play across mainland France and overseas territories. In 2003, Mister Gang issued the live album Live In Kanaky, coinciding with a tour that spanned more than 700 concerts over thirteen years, underscoring their enduring popularity; the same year, members Timike (later known as Le Petit Dernier) and the brass section, drummer Gael Chosson, and keyboardist Capt'n departed to form the group Sunshiners. Mister Gang’s discography and extensive touring contributed to the broader visibility of reggae in France.
