Biography

Miguel Ãngel ValdÃ©s HernÃ¡ndez, known as Miguelito ValdÃ©s, and born on September 6, 1912 in Havana, Cuba, was a singer. He began his musical career with the Sexteto Habanero Infantil and later joined MarÃa Teresa Vera's Sexteto Occidente before becoming a founding member of the Septeto JÃ³venes del Cayo in 1929. ValdÃ©s gained prominence as a vocalist at the Havana-Riverside Casino, leading to international fame. In 1937, he joined Orquesta Casino de la Playa and recorded "Bruca maniguÃ¡" with RCA Victor. His career included collaborations with notable orchestras such as Xavier Cugat's and Machito's, and an appearance in the film You Were Never Lovelier. ValdÃ©s was known for his rendition of "BabalÃº", which earned him the nickname "Mr. BabalÃº". He continued to record and perform until his death on November 9, 1978, while singing at Hotel Tequendama in BogotÃ¡, Colombia.
