Biography

Michael Siegfried Raphael, born on November 7, 1951, in Dallas, Texas, is a harmonica player. He gained prominence through his collaboration with Willie Nelson, whom he began touring with in 1973 as part of the Family. Throughout his career, he has performed or recorded with numerous notable artists including Jason Isbell, Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, Chris Stapleton, Jerry Jeff Walker, Paul Simon, Snoop Dogg, Engelbert Humperdinck, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Leon Bridges, Neil Young, Norah Jones, Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, Duane Eddy, Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris. Raphael's production credits include Naked Willie (2009), a stripped-down remix of Willie Nelson's early RCA catalogs, and the 2016 release of the Highwaymen box set, which included live performances by Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, and Kris Kristofferson.
