Biography
Clinton Gregory, born 1 March 1964 in Martinsville, is an American country and bluegrass singer-songwriter and fiddler. He began playing the fiddle at age five and performed at festivals by age six. At twelve, Gregory moved to Nashville, where his father, Willie Gregory, performed on the Grand Ole Opry. After working as a session musician for artists including Suzy Bogguss, he signed to Step One Records in 1990. Gregory established a reputation as the first independent act in over a decade to reach the country top 30. His discography included the albums Music 'n Me (1990), Freeborn Man (1991), and (If It Weren't For Country Music) I'd Go Crazy (1991). In 1992, the single "Play, Ruby, Play" reached number 25 on the Billboard charts. Gregory received the Music Row Industry's Independent Artist of the Year award in 1992 and 1993. His later recordings included Master of Illusion (1993), Clinton Gregory (1995), and Roots of My Raising (2013).
