Biography
Although not strictly speaking a country tenor, guitarist and songwriter Rodney Crowell (born in Crosby, Texas, on August 7, 1950) is a recognized figure. His early career was marked by his membership of Emmylou Harris's Hot Band, from 1975 to 1977, for whom he continued to write regularly thereafter. Married to Rosanne Cash in 1979, the couple divorced in 1991, but reunited from time to time. His personal career, which began in 1978 with the album Ain't Living Long Like This, continued alongside his collaborations. In 1989, he received his only Grammy Award for the song "After All This Time" from the album Diamonds & Dirt (1988). The songwriter reunited with Emmylou Harris for the duo albums Old Yellow Moon (2013) and The Traveling Kind (2015), then recorded the acoustic volumes Close Ties (2017) devoted to his repertoire and Acoustic Classics (2018). In 2019, Crowell received the Poet's Award from the Academy of Country Music and released the album Texas the same year, followed by Triage in 2021, The Chicago Sessions in 2023 and Airline Highway in 2025. The latter features contributions from Lukas Nelson, Charlie Starr, Tyler Bryant, Ashley McBryde, Lukas Nelson and Larkin Poe.
