Michael Speaks, born 1977 in Benton Harbor, Michigan, is an American singer. Inspired by his brother's piano playing and his father's preaching, Michael Speaks began performing in a gospel choir at a young age. He formed the group Christian Brothers at ten years old, which performed in local churches. After moving to New York City, he sang in subway stations, catching the attention of East West Records executives following a performance at the Apollo Theater. His debut single "Whatever You Need" reached number 85 on the US R&B chart. Michael Speaks released his first album, No Equal in 1995. He collaborated with artists such as Missy Elliott and Babyface before returning to his gospel roots. In 1997, he joined Next Movement in Las Vegas, later forming Hypnotic and performing regularly with Mocha.
