Biography

Melvin Riley is primarily known for his work as a vocalist and songwriter in the Michigan, Grammy-nominated R&B group Ready for the World, singing on hits such as "Oh Sheila" (1985) and chart-topper "Love You Down" (1986) while garnering songwriting credits for both songs. In 1987, he also wrote and produced the Top 10 R&B hit by 4 By Four, "Come Over" before setting his sights on a solo career in 1991. He was successful in that arena too, notching up R&B chart hits with "Who's It It?" and "What Makes A Man (Cheat On His Woman)" in 1994. Both tracks were included on his 1994 debut album Ghetto Love and his second LP, Bedtime Stories, followed in 2000. He released singles sporadically over the next few decades—including "Telephone Freakin" in 2019 and "Blue Dress" in 2021—before returning triumphantly in 2024 with the comeback single "You Complete Me."
