Melechesh, a black metal band from Israel, was formed in 1993 in Jerusalem by Ashmedi. The group initially consisted of Lord Curse and Moloch, with Cimeries and Thamuz joining in 1995 to record their debut demo As Jerusalem Burnsâ¦. After several lineup changes, Melechesh signed with Breath of Night Records in 1996 and released their first album, As Jerusalem Burns... AlâIntisar. The band's early years were marked by controversies due to allegations of satanistic activities. In 2000, they signed with Osmose Productions and released the albums Djinn (2001) and Sphynx (2003), which gained them international recognition. Notable collaborations include working with King Diamond guitarist Andy LaRocque on Sphynx. Melechesh continued to release albums such as Emissaries (2006) and The Epigenesis (2010). The band is known for their unique style of "Mesopotamian Black Metal," which incorporates oriental influences into traditional black metal. Eleven years after the release of their sixth album Enki (2015), Melechesh returned in 2026 with the Sentinels of Shamash EP.
