Biography

MC Eiht, born Aaron Bernard Tyler on May 22, 1971, in Compton, California, is a defining voice in West Coast hip-hop, renowned for his gritty narratives of life in Compton. Rising to prominence as a member of Compton's Most Wanted, MC Eiht contributed to their breakthrough album Music to Driveby (1992) before transitioning into a successful solo career. His haunting single "Streiht Up Menace," featured in the 1993 film Menace II Society, where he also played A-Wax, is considered a cornerstone of his discography. MC Eiht’s solo albums, including We Come Strapped (1994) and Death Threatz (1996), are emblematic of 1990s West Coast gangsta rap, marked by his rivalry with DJ Quik. Throughout his career, MC Eiht remained prolific, releasing Which Way Iz West in 2017 and collaborating with artists like Kendrick Lamar on "m.A.A.d city." Beyond music, his role as Ryder in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and his appearances in low-budget films extended his influence. Over decades, MC Eiht has navigated the complexities of label changes, collaborations, and evolving sounds, solidifying his status as a legend in West Coast hip-hop and a chronicler of Compton’s streets. In 2020, he dropped his fifteenth studio album Lessons, followed by a sequel titled Lessons 2 in 2023.
