Biography

Masha i Medvedi, a Russian rock band formed in 1997 by Maria Makarova from Krasnodar, gained traction when Makarova's demo reached Oleg Nesterov of Megapolis. The band released their debut album SolnceklÑsh in 1998 under Extraphone Records. "Lyubochka" from this album topped the Moskovsky Komsomolets Charts four times and earned them multiple awards, including Discovery of 1998 at the Maxidrom festival. The band disbanded in 2000 but reformed in 2004 to release Bez yazyka in 2006. They continued with EPs The End and Gusenitsy in 2012 and 2013, respectively.
