Martin Speake, born on April 3, 1958 in England, is a British saxophonist. He studied classical saxophone at Trinity College of Music and began his career with the sax outfit Itchy Fingers, touring extensively across Europe, South America, Africa, and the USA. In 1986, the band won the Schlitz Young Jazz Musicians of the Year Award, which was also broadcast on the BBC. Speake has released eighteen albums as a leader, including Change of Heart (2006) with Paul Motian, Bobo Stenson, and Mick Hutton. Notable collaborations include work with Ethan Iverson and performances at the London Jazz Festival. He has taught at various institutions, including the Royal Academy of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. In 2018, Speake released Intention on Ubuntu Music, which received a review from The Jazz Mann.
