Warren Brooks Bernhardt, born on November 13, 1938, in Wausau, Wisconsin, was an American pianist known for his work in jazz, pop, and classical music. His father's influence led to early exposure to piano, and he began serious study under various instructors after moving to New York City at age five. Bernhardt's career took off when he joined Paul Winterâs sextet from 1961 to 1964, leading to collaborations with artists such as George Benson, Gerry Mulligan, and Jeremy Steig. He released several solo albums in the 1970s, including Solo Piano (1978) and Blue Montreux (1979). Notable collaborations include providing piano accompaniment on Don McLean's "Crossroads" in 1971 and touring with Steely Dan from 1993 to 1994. Bernhardt passed away on August 19, 2022, at the age of 83.
