Biography

Marronnier was a dynamic project group in the 1990s centered around planner Kim Seon-min. It debuted in 1989 as a collective of solo artists, initially inviting guest vocalists for each album. By 1995, the group shifted to having regular members from its fourth album onward. Kim Seon-min played a significant role until he stepped back after the sixth album in 1997, and the group disbanded after their seventh album in 1998. The group's name, inspired by street performers in Marronnier Park, reflected its evolving lineup, reminiscent of groups like 015B and Toy. Marronnier's first notable success came with the hit "Cocktail Love" from their third album in 1994, which achieved enduring popularity and was featured in various media, including the TV drama Reply 1994. However, they faced controversy when it was revealed that the performers seen in music videos and TV were not the actual singers from the recording, leading to a legal battle over copyright and artist recognition, marking a significant legal precedent in music copyright history.
