Biography

Kim Wan-sun, known as the Queen of K-pop, is a South Korean singer, dancer, and actress born on May 16, 1969, in Seoul, South Korea. She started her music journey during middle school, learning from her aunt Han Baek-hee, who managed successful artists like Insooni, whom she trained with for three years. Debuting in 1986 with the album Tonight, Kim Wan-sun's style blended pop, dance, and rock genres, a unique approach for her time. Some of her notable hits include âSuper Loveâ, âGoodbye My Love,â and "Be Quietâ, the latter which charted at number 6 on the Korean charts. Releasing albums every year, including Alone in Front of the Yard, (1987) Too Lonely to Dance Alone (1988) and Feel Good Day (1989), it was 1990 album Pierrot Smiles at Us, that catapulted her into stardom, selling over 1 million copies. Gaining a massive surge in popularity, Kim Wan-sun continued to release a slew of popular albums in both Korean and Chinese, including Sadness (1992), The First Touch (1994), Extremely Attractive (1995), Innocence (1996), Mi Mi Hu Hu (1996), S & Remake (2002) and Return (2005). After an extended hiatus, then singer returned with two extended plays: Super Love (2011) and The Beer (2012) which peaked at number 28 and 39 respectively, and a compilation album titled The Original in 2017. In August 2023, Kim Wan-sunâs 2017 hit âThe dance in the rhythmâ re-emerged on the charts, appearing in the top 200 in Korea.
