Biography

French mezzo-soprano singer Marianne Crebassa was born on December 14, 1986 in Béziers, in the Hérault region of France. She began by taking piano lessons at the Montpellier Conservatoire, before turning to opera singing. In 2010, after a number of stage experiences that saw her sing in Pizzetti's Fedra, Bernard Herrmann's Les Hauts de Hurlevent and Franz Lehár's operetta Friederike at the Festival de Radio-France, she joined the Atelier Lyrique de l'Opéra de Paris and won the Prix de la révélation lyrique de l'Adami (2011). In 2012, she made her debut at the Salzburg Festival in Tamerlano (Handel), and returned the following year for Lucio Silla (Mozart), revived at La Scala in Milan. In 2014, she sang Madame Butterfly at the Paris Opera and Charlotte Salomon, by Marc-André Dalbavie, in Salzburg. Her extensive repertoire ranges from Baroque to contemporary opera, and includes major mezzo-soprano roles such as Cherubino in The Marriage of Figaro, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel in 2015 and Franz Welser-Möst the following year. Twice nominated for the Victoires de la musique classique, in 2016 and 2017, Marianne Crebassa recorded her first recital, Oh, Boy! (2016), with Marc Minkowski. This one, featuring arias by Gluck, Mozart, Offenbach, Massenet and Gounod, testifies to her eclecticism.
