Biography

A Latvian soprano born in Riga on October 10, 1980, Marina Rebeka trained in Parma, where she made her stage debut in Rossini's The Barber of Seville, then at the Conservatorio Santa Cecilia in Rome (2007), at the Mozarteum Summer Academy in Salzburg with Professor Grace Bumbry, and at the Rossini Academy in Pesaro with Alberto Zedda. Her professional debut in Erfurt in La Traviata (Verdi) was followed by appearances at the Rossini Festival, in Le Voyage à Reims (2007), Maometo II (2008) and Stabat Mater (2010). Since then, she has performed a succession of roles across Europe, notably at La Scala in Milan, where she returned to Le Voyage à Reims in 2009. The same year saw her revelation at the Salzburg Festival, where she sang Rossini's Moses and Pharaoh, conducted by Riccardo Muti. In 2010, Marina Rebeka made her debut at Covent Garden (London), replacing Angela Gheorghiu in La Traviata, then at the Berlin Opera in Don Giovanni and at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in another production of Mozart's opera in 2011, as well as at the Vienna Opera for several years running. Now confirmed as one of the leading sopranos, Marina Rebeka records her first recital Mozart Arias for Warner Classics (2013), followed by Amor Fatale: Rossini Arias for BR Klassik (2017) and for Prima Classic, Spirito (2018), Elle: French Opera Arias (2020), Credo (2021) and Voyage with pianist Mathieu Pordoy (2022). Recorded operas include Verdi: Luisa Miller (2018), Verdi: La Traviata (2019), Mozart: Don Giovanni (2021) by Andrew Davis, Bellini: Il Pirata (2021), Spontini: La Vestale (2023) conducted by Christophe Rousset and Verdi: Otello (2023), with partner Andrea Bocelli.
