Guillermo Anderson (born February 26, 1962) was a Honduran singer-songwriter and composer from La Ceiba. Known for merging Afro-Caribbean percussion with punta and reggae, Anderson studied literature and music at the University of California, Santa Cruz, graduating in 1986. While in the United States, he performed with the trio Now and worked with the professional theater company El Teatro de la Esperanza. After returning to Honduras in 1987, Anderson co-founded the artist movement COLECTIVARTES and performed in the production Sabor a sombra. His solo discography included the albums Para los chiquitos (1986), Pobre marinero (2001), and Costa y calor (2005). His recordings âEn mi paÃsâ and âEl encarguitoâ achieved international recognition, with the former considered an alternative national anthem. Anderson was named Cultural Ambassador of Honduras in 2002 and received the Premio Nacional de Arte (2003) and La Orden Laurel de Oro (2008). He toured extensively across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Anderson died of thyroid cancer in La Ceiba on August 6, 2016. The posthumous recording Ese mortal llamado Morazán was released in 2017.
