Marc Dorsey, born MarcâDewaine Hample Dorsey in 1971 in Washington, D.C., is an American R&B singer who emerged from the Newâ¯York music scene. He first attracted attention with a cover of "People Make the World Go Round" for Spike Leeâs 1994 film Crooklyn, a track that appeared on the soundtrack and introduced him to a wider audience. In 1999, Dorsey signed with Jive Records and released his debut studio album Crave on Augustâ¯10,â¯1999; the album was produced by Timmy Allen, Larry Campbell and Manuel Seal and produced three charting singles, including "If You Really Wanna Know" and "All I Do". His career peaked in 2002 when he featured on LLâ¯Coolâ¯Jâs single "Luv U Better", which reached number four on the Billboard Hotâ¯100 and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration at the 46th Annual Grammy Awards. That same year, he also appeared on JayâZâs track "A Ballad for the Fallen Soldier" alongside Pharrell Williams, both songs produced by the Neptunes. Dorseyâs work has been noted for its blend of rap and R&B, and his contributions to film soundtracks and commercial jingles have cemented his role as a versatile vocalist in lateâ1990s and earlyâ2000s American music.
