Biography

Hotdog, a Filipino band formed in 1972, originated from Manila and consisted of brothers Dennis Garcia and Rene Garcia. The group's initial breakthrough came with their debut album Unang Kagat released in 1974 by Villar Records, which led to the 1975 movie of the same name starring the band. Hotdog was also credited for pioneering the "Manila Sound," a genre that revitalized Filipino music during the mid-1970s. Their discography included notable albums such as Inspiration: Everybody Needs One (1976) and Annie Batungbakal (1979). The band's hit songs include "Manila" (1976), a tribute to Overseas Filipino Workers and "Bongga Ka, 'Day" (1979), which inspired an eponymous motion picture. Hotdog disbanded in the mid-1980s but reunited in 2000 for various performances. The band officially dissolved following the death of co-founder Dennis Garcia in January 2020.
