Major Maker was formed in Toronto, Ontario, in 2006 by Bulgarianâborn Todor Kobakov, a University of Toronto classicalâpiano graduate, and singerâsongwriter Lindyâ¯Vopnfjörð. The album All Allusion was released in 2006. Their breakout came when the single "Rollercoaster," on the People Carrier EP from 2007, was used in a Maynards candy commercial; the 30âsecond spot drove online attention and the band released an extended single in Julyâ¯2007 that reached number 57 on the Billboard Canadian Hotâ¯100 after twelve weeks. The duo followed with Funky Lady EP in 2008. Major Maker achieved a Number 1 position on CBC Radioâ¯3âs The R3â30 charts in Mayâ¯2013, underscoring Major Makerâs influence on Canadaâs indieârock scene.
