Biography
Ra Ra Riot is an American indie rock band from Syracuse, New York, formed in January 2006. The group's original lineup featured lead vocalist Shaw Flick, who left in 2006, and drummer John Ryan Pike, alongside current members Wes Miles, Mathieu Santos, Milo Bonacci, and Rebecca Zeller. Miles became the lead vocalist following Flick's departure. The group attracted early attention for its energetic live performances, which led to an appearance at the CMJ Music Marathon and favorable reviews from Spin magazine. In July 2007, the band released an eponymous EP on the Rebel Group label. Its debut studio album, The Rhumb Line, was released on August 19, 2008, in North America and on September 22, 2008, in Europe. The album featured the singles âDying Is Fineâ, âGhost Under Rocksâ, and âCan You Tellâ. Their second studio album, The Orchard, was released on August 24, 2010, followed by Beta Love on January 22, 2013, which marked a stylistic shift from baroque pop to synthpop. The group subsequently released Need Your Light on February 19, 2016, which featured the single âWaterâ, and Superbloom on August 9, 2019. During their early career, Pike went missing under suspicious circumstances on June 2, 2007, after a show, and was found dead the next day; his death was believed to be an accidental drowning, and no foul play was suspected. The group's later activities include completing a tour in 2024 to celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of The Rhumb Line and releasing the single âThe Wishâ on May 1, 2024.
