Biography

Maja Francis is a singer and songwriter from Sweden. She was born Maja Francis Alderin on November 10, 1985, in the city of Helsingborg. She is the granddaughter of Thory Bernhards, a famous Swedish singer and composer from the 1940s and 1950s. After studying music in Helsingborg, Maja Francis started to compose and perform her own songs. She released her single “Last Days of Dancing” in 2015, followed by a collaboration with Swedish soul singer Veronica Maggio called “Space Invades My Mind” that same year. Maja Francis released her debut EP Come Companion in January 2016. In 2017, she began collaborating with sister folk duo First Aid Kit, starting with her performance on “Famous Blue Raincoat” for their Leonard Cohen tribute show. In 2018, Maja Francis released two EPs titled Cry Baby Part 1 and Cry Baby Part 2. The following year, she released a cover version of the Kate Bush song “This Woman’s Work.” In 2020, Maja Francis’s profile would increase considerably with the use of her song “Anxious Angel” as the closing track on the Netflix show Love & Anarchy. Her debut full-length album, A Pink Soft Mess, was released in 2021. Over the course of 2022, Maja Francis released various singles such as “Beg Me,” “Girl Laying Down,” and the tender ballad “Please Remember Me,” which reached Number 65 on the Swedish charts.
